truth-out.org (2018-05-10). Who Paid Michael Cohen All That Money? truth-out.org Donald Trump's presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton pretty much consisted of two messages. He claimed she didn't have the "strength and stamina" to be president, which was a straight-up sexist and ageist hit on her for being an older woman. The fact that he's older than she is simply wasn't relevant. As we now know, Trump felt the need to dictate his own medical report, since he wasn't sure enough of his own good health to undergo a real physical. And it turns out that Trump spends more time watching TV, playing golf and enjoying "executive time" than any president in modern memory. He's not exactly the Energizer Bunny. | The other main theme, of course, was "Crooked Hillary." Trump accused Clinton of being corrupt, traitorous and criminal over and over again. | Recall this ad, which encapsulated that running theme: | #CrookedHillary

Support this vital work by making a tax-deductible donation now! | If there is one factor responsible for massively impacting President Donald Trump's surprise 2016 election victory, it had to be the open seat of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. By refusing to allow a confirmation hearing for President Barack Obama's appointee — Judge Merrick Garland — and leaving the seat vacant for over a full year, the GOP easily propelled the religious right to the polls. | No wonder they're trying so hard to recreate that crisis. | There's little doubt for Republicans that the 2018 midterms are going to be a hard slog. The Department of Homeland Security has previously publicly acknowledged that Russians scanned systems in 21 states and were able to " penetrate" a handful. But cybersecurity experts say the report Tuesday from the Senate intelligence committee offers new details on what exactly Russian-backed hackers could have done once they got inside election systems. We spend the rest of the hour looking at the war in Syria with a Syrian journalist and a New York artist who have worked together for years. Marwan Hisham is a Syrian journalist from Raqqa, now living in exile in Turkey. He became a journalist after first taking part in the initial protests against Bashar al-Assad in 2011. His new book is illustrated and co-authored by the award-winning artist Molly Crabapple. They first started collaborating in 2014, when Hisham was still living in ISIS-occupied Raqqa. He would send her photographs of life under ISIS, and she would draw illustrations of them. Their book is titled "Brothers of the Gun: A Memoir of the Syrian War" and is out next week.

Who Paid Michael Cohen All That Money?
truth-out.org | truth-out.org | 2018-05-10
Donald Trump's presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton pretty much consisted of two messages. Coming of Age in the Syrian War: Memoir by Journalist Marwan Hisham & Illustrator Molly Crabapple
Democracy Now! | democracynow.org | 2018-05-10
Israel has bombed dozens of Iranian targets inside the country in the largest attack by Israel since fighting began in Syria in 2011. The bombing raid came a day after Israel accused Iranian forces in Syria of firing 20 rockets at Israeli forces in the occupied Golan Heights, a part of Syria that Israel has occupied since 1967.

U.S. Hypocrisy Creates Perpetual Enemies and Forever War

Sarah Burris, Raw Story | alternet.org | 2018-05-09
He claimed that he has been be the victim of false charges all trumped up by his enemies and the fake news media. | In a Wednesday evening open-letter, failed West Virginia senate candidate and convicted coal CEO Don Blankenship went into full attack mode against President Donald Trump. After a humiliating defeat in the GOP primary, Blankenship took to Facebook to compare himself to Trump for being under attack for decades. "You have rightfully complained about fake news and the corrupt Obama-era Department of Justice (DOJ)," Blankenship wrote. "However, you seem unaware of the fact that you are not the only one under attack. "He claimed that he has been be the victim of false charges all trumped up by his enemies and the fake news media. He then blamed Trump for spreading fake news against him. "You, yourself, also spread fake news against me. Your interference in the West Virginia election displayed a lack of understanding of the likely outcome of the upcoming general election," he continued. "Patrick Morrisey will likely lose the general election. It's too late to change that, but it's not helpful to do to me what others are doing to you. "Read the full post below:. . .

Maryland 'Deplorables' Threaten Liberals with Armed Attack if Trump Is Impeached
AlterNet | alternet.org | 2018-05-09
The sign's owner reportedly agreed to change it after a conversation with the sheriff. | Maryland residents were disturbed when a billboard appeared on Solomons Island Road in Calvert County that seemed to threaten opponents of President Donald Trump with an armed insurrection. "Hey liberals," reads the billboard. "Better get your guns if you try to impeach President Trump. From all of your deplorables in Calvert County. "The Calvert County Sheriff's Office has reportedly been "flooded with phone calls" regarding the sign. "I hate that billboard," one woman said, explaining that it frightened her son. "I think it's very threatening. I don't like it at all. ""I'm a Republican but I think it's a little offensive," Kelly Mazzella offered. Fellow conservative Michelle Rinker said she "love[d]" the threatening billboard. The sign's owner will reportedly change the sign after he returns to town, following a discussion with the sheriff.

Pence Is 'Horrifying': Conservative Columnist Says the Vice President Is Worse than Trump
Cody Fenwick, AlterNet | alternet.org | 2018-05-09
"Pence is what he has chosen to be, which is horrifying. " | Vice President Mike Pence is "the worst person in government," conservative columnist George Will declared in the Washington Post Wednesday night. He has, in that regard, surpassed even President Donald Trump, Will said. Will, who left the Republican Party after the rise of Trump, now seems to hold unique disdain for his formerly fellow partisans who emboldened the president's ascent. Perhaps, in that way, Pence has played a unique role. But Will primarily excoriates Pence for his fawning behavior toward Trump. This has most famously been on display during televised Cabinet meetings during which Trump's subordinates take their time to praise him profusely and thank the president for his generosity. No one has been more obsequious in these displays than Pence. What seems to have really convinced Will of the vice president's. . .

Trita Parsi: I Was Targeted by Black Cube in Dirty Ops Effort Attacking Supporters of Iran Deal
Democracy Now! | democracynow.org | 2018-05-09
Trita Parsi, head of the National Iranian American Council, says he was targeted by an Israeli private intelligence agency over his support for the Iran nuclear deal. The agency, Black Cube, was hired to orchestrate a "dirty ops" campaign against members of the Obama administration who negotiated the nuclear agreement. The Guardian reports Trump's aides hired Black Cube; The New York Times says it's not yet clear who hired the intelligence firm. Among those Black Cube was hired to investigate and discredit were Obama's top national security aide Benjamin Rhodes and Vice President Joe Biden's national security adviser Colin Kahl. Black Cube is made up of former officials from the Mossad and other Israeli agencies. It is the same firm hired by disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein to stop publication of articles that exposed him as a sexual predator.

Democracy Now! | democracynow.org | 2018-05-09
Voters in West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and North Carolina headed to the polls Tuesday to decide a number of key primaries. In West Virginia, the state's Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey won a closely watched U.S. Senate primary, defeating U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins and former coal baron Don Blankenship. Blankenship had served a year in prison after 29 miners died in the 2010 Upper Big Branch Mine disaster. He faced intense criticism after releasing an ad attacking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his "China family." Patrick Morrisey will now face the conservative Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin in November. In Ohio, Richard Cordray defeated former Congressmember Dennis Kucinich in the state's Democratic primary for governor. Cordray served as the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He will now face Mike DeWine in November to determine who will replace outgoing Ohio Governor…
